Cancer of the anus is far rarer than cancer of the colon or rectum. Effective treatment requires an accurate diagnosis and close communication between medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and a surgical oncologists. Successful treatment can be achieved without surgery but it is important to be under the care of a surgical oncologist.
