Dr. Morton S. Kahlenberg, M.D., F.A.C.S. is recognized by his peers as one of the nation’s foremost surgical oncologists and a leader in the treatment of colorectal and breast cancer. Dr. Kahlenberg completed his surgical oncology training at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. He is a member of the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP) national colorectal committee, which shapes state-of-the-art care for patients through the design of clinical trials.

Dr. Kahlenberg is also an active researcher whose work has received grant support from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and the American College of Surgeons. He serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Clinical Oncology and the Annals of Surgical Oncology and is a member of the Society of University Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, the Association for Academic Surgery, the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Association for Cancer Research. Dr. Kahlenberg has also been recognized in several magazines including San Antonio Monthly and San Antonio Magazine. He is consistently selected by community and regional physicians as one of the best surgeons for the treatment of breast cancer and colorectal cancer.

David L. Smith, MD, FACS

Since completing his surgical oncology training at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, Dr. Smith went on to become the Chief of Surgical Oncology and Breast Surgery as well as the Chairman of Surgery at Wilford Hall Medical Center and the first Chairman of Surgery for the new SAMMC medical center in San Antonio, in addition to being the general surgery consultant to the USAF Surgeon General. He is the only Trauma/ Critical Care trained Surgical Oncologist in the United States. Prior to his joining the group, Dr. Smith was the Director of Surgical Research and resident education for the USAF’s largest medical center. He deployed to Iraq and the Middle East on multiple occasions. Dr. Smith is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and Member of the Committee on Cancer for the American College of Surgeons; additionally he is a member of numerous surgical specialty societies to include the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Breast Surgeons, the American Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association, and the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract.
